Blacksburg, Va. -- The International Technology Education Association and its Technology for All Americans Project (TfAAP) has enlisted the support of the National Research Council's Center for Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Education (CSMEE) to review the fourth draft of Standards for Technology Education: Content for the Study of Technology (Technology Content Standards). The initial review process began with organizing the Framework Development Committee to create an outline for Technology Content Standards and the Standards Review Committee to oversee the development of the standards.

The Framework Development Committee provided specific detail to the outline of the publication's framework, and based on their input, TfAAP began revising the framework. The framework and a compilation of recommendations from the previous reviews of Technology Content Standards was sent to CSMEE in preparation for the May 21-22, 1999 meeting in Washington, D.C. where the Standards Review Committee provided input on the revision. TfAAP is using their recommendations as the foundation for writing the fourth draft of Technology Content Standards.

The TfAAP staff is developing criteria for writing the standards and creating a sample format of the draft, which will be used to guide the revision process. Previously used vignettes will be modified based on feedback from the third draft, and new vignettes will be added. Other sections of the publication, such as the acknowledgments, the history of the standards development process, and the glossary also will be revised. The projected completion date for the fourth draft of Technology Content Standards is late July. It will then be sent to the Standards Review Committee for a technical review of the content, writing style, and various other aspects of the document. In August, CSMEE will provide a detailed report of their findings, and after reviewing their report, TfAAP will select a course of action on the technical review. Any revisions based on the report will be made in September, and an updated version of Technology Content Standards will be sent to the Standards Review Committee for final review in October.

From November 1999 to March 2000, TfAAP will be editing Technology Content Standards and preparing it for publication. Technology Content Standards will be released later in 2000.
