ISRAEL DELAYS CRUCIAL VOTE ON U.S. PLAN

Forestalling the possible break-up of the government, Israel's Cabinet decided Wednesday to postpone at least until Sunday a vote on a U.S. formula for peace talks with Palestinians.

Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir, leader of the Likud, adjourned the regular weekly meeting of the 12 senior Cabinet ministers without any clear progress to bridge the gap between the Likud and its Labor partner in the coalition government.

Labor ministers reiterated their pledge to break up the coalition if the Cabinet fails to endorse the U.S. formula. The Labor Party originally set Wednesday as a deadline. - The Baltimore Sun
