`BEER AMNESTY' RAISES CASH FOR DELIVERY MAN

A radio station raised enough cash Wednesday to cover the $513 tab Scott owed to Hoffman Beverage Co. after 42 cases of Budweiser fell off his truck last month and were stolen by passers-by.

FM 99-WNOR's morning radio team of Henry "The Bull" Del Toro and Tommy Griffiths declared a "beer amnesty" Wednesday morning. They announced they would accept brews or bucks on location near the spill site - no questions asked - to help cover the cost of the beer, which was being deducted from Scott's pay.

The pair collected almost $500 in little more than an hour. Almost $200 came from Scott's former employer, Norfolk Beverage Co.

Del Toro and Griffiths appealed to the consciences of those who scooped up armfuls of the 1,680 cans of beer rolling across Western Branch Boulevard Feb. 5. Most probably were unaware that Scott would get stuck with the bill, they said.
