TWO INCUMBENTS UNCHALLENGED FOR VINTON COUNCIL

Donald Davis and Roy McCarty will run unchallenged for their seats on Vinton Town Council in May.

The deadline for filing with the Roanoke County Circuit Court was Tuesday.

Elizabeth Stokes, clerk of Circuit Court for Roanoke County, said no one but the incumbents filed.

McCarty, a teacher at the Roanoke County Occupational School, was first elected in 1978. Davis, the vice mayor, is manager of Sovran Bank's Vinton branch and is completing his first four-year term.

McCarty is a graduate of William Byrd High School, and Davis is a native of Lexington. Both men have been active on various council committees. They most recently served on the recycling committee, which was responsible for making Vinton the first Roanoke Valley government to institute a mandatory recycling policy.
