FINLEY CONSIDERED FOR CHANCELLOR'S POST

Former state Secretary of Education Donald J. Finley is among four finalists under consideration by the state Board for Community Colleges for chancellor of Virginia's 23-college system, the board said Monday.

In addition to Finley, the finalists to succeed Jeff Hockaday are Dan D. Angel, president of Austin Community College in Texas; David R. Pierce, executive director of the Illinois Community College board; and Ronald J. Temple, president of Wayne County Community College in Detroit.

Finley was education secretary under Govs. Charles Robb and Gerald Baliles. Angel has been president of Austin Community College since 1985. Pierce has held his position since 1980; and Temple has been at the Michigan school since 1985.

The board said the four finalists will be interviewed this week, and a selection will be made before the end of the month.

On July 1, Hockaday will become president of Pima County Community College District in Tucson, Ariz.
