BOY DIES OF INJURIES DAY AFTER HIT BY CAR

A 7-year-old boy died Sunday after being struck by a car in Martinsville Saturday afternoon.

Stephen Andrew Witt of Martinsville was hit about 4:30 p.m. Saturday while trying to cross Chatham Heights Road near its intersection with Commonwealth Boulevard.

He suffered head injuries, cuts and multiple fractures and was taken to Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County, according to Martinsville Police Chief Terry Roop. He died about 10 a.m. Sunday.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Witt was identified as James E. Willis of Henry County. He was not injured.

Roop said no charges are pending from the accident.

Witt was the son of Bill and Susan Witt. He was a second-grader at Martinsville Christian School.
