Tim Ferris said he and other homeowners in the Scenic Acres subdivision are willing to pay half of the $43,205 needed to bring their private road up to state standards so that county school buses can pick up their children at a busy state road nearby.
The state would pay the other half if county supervisors agree to the plan. County Administrator William Rolfe told supervisors that the plan allows a county to get up to $500,000 in matching funds to improve roads.
"I think it's a good program, but I think we need to set up a policy on this," Rolfe told board members. "What if next year the requests go over $500,000 - how are we going to pick and choose between roads?"
Rolfe said he would contact officials in counties which use the state program.
