BLACKSBURG HIRES NEW ASSISTANT TOWN MANAGER

Bonnie Svrcek, a senior budget analyst in Fairfax County, has been hired as Blacksburg's assistant town manager.

Svrcek, 34, was selected from 148 candidates, Town Manager Ron Secrist announced Thursday. She will start work May 21 at a salary of $39,850.

"I'm very excited about the opportunity to work with the people I met during the day I was there for the interview," Svrcek said in a phone interview. "I'm looking forward to coming down there and meeting more friendly people."

Svrcek takes over the position that has been vacant since mid-December when Doug Fawcett left to take a job in Caroline County.

Svrcek has been with Fairfax County for five years. Prior to that, she was assistant city representative for the National Center for Municipal Development in Washington for five years.

Svrcek holds degrees from the University of Southern California and the University of Maryland.
