STATE POLICE ANNOUNCE PROMOTIONS

A Montgomery County native has been named deputy superintendent of the Virginia State Police.

Lt. Col. Harry Moorman Durham took over as second in command of the state police on April 1, Col. William F. Corvello, the superintendent of state police, announced.

Durham attended Shawsville High School and Northwestern University. He is married to the former Linda Kemp of Shawsville. They have two sons and live in Midlothian.

His mother, Helen D. Durham, lives in Christiansburg.

The 47-year-old Durham succeeds Corvello as deputy superintendent. Durham was director of the department's bureau of administrative and support services before his promotion.

He has been with the state police since 1965.

The department's new director of field operations is Lt. Col. Letcher A. Graham, a Roanoke native. Formerly deputy director of field operations, Graham, 58, was promoted from major when he assumed his new duties.

Graham succeeds Lt. Col. Charles M. Robinson, 54, a Norfolk native, who replaces Durham as director of the bureau of administrative and support services.

Maj. John B. Scott, 46, a native of Bland County, has been named deputy director of field operations. He formerly was deputy director of the bureau of administrative services.
