SPILL IN CULPEPER STREAM NOT A SERIOUS DANGER

A spill of about 200 gallons of diesel fuel into Mountain Run stream does not pose a serious health hazard, says Tom Williams, the town's emergency services coordinator.

The fuel spilled during the weekend from the Municipal Electric Utility after a gate valve on a storage tank apparently was knocked open just enough to allow an overflow, said Culpeper Town Manager G.W. Griffin.

"I'd recommend they don't go fishing in it for a couple of days, that they not go in it at all until it's been cleared out," Williams said.
