The Bucs blew scoring opportunities in the top of the ninth and 10th innings and lost 5-4 when pitcher Mike Pomeranz's 3-2 pitch hit Prince William's Mauricio Zazueta, forcing in the winning run.
In the top of ninth, Salem's Rob Bailey tripled but was left stranded when Cannons' pitcher Bruce Prybylinski got a pop foul and two strikeouts to end the threat.
In the top of 10th, the Bucs had the bases loaded with one out and were unable to drive home a run off Mike Gardella (1-0).
The Cannons started the bottom of the 10th when Herb Erhardt walked off Pomeranz (2-2). Kiki Hernandez reached on a bunt and Jason Bridges drew an intentional walk to load the bases. Pomeranz, whose curveball had worked well earlier, then hit Mauricio Zazueta to bring in Erhardt with the winning run and give the Cannons a four-game sweep.
The Cannons moved into second place in the Northern Division at 11-14 and extended their winning streak to five. Salem fell to 10-15 and third place.
