D.S. GARNER, EX-MEDICAL DIRECTOR, DIES

Dr. David Samuel Garner, former vice president and medical director of Shenandoah Life Insurance Co., died Sunday at the Roanoke Methodist Home. He was 91.

A Richmond County native, Garner was a graduate of Randolph-Macon College. He taught school for seven years before entering the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.

After graduating in 1933, he remained at MCV for six years and was director of the outpatient clinic there for two years.

He joined Shenandoah Life and moved to Roanoke in 1939. He was named vice president and medical director in 1954 and retired in 1964. He also was on the staff of the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem.

Garner was president of the Roanoke Academy of Medicine, the Roanoke Rotary Club and Blue Shield of Southwest Virginia. He was elder in the Second Presbyterian Church.

Surviving is his wife, Willye Mae Garner. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
