GAS, OIL PLAN COMMENTS SOUGHT

The Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy is asking for public comment on new regulations for gas and oil exploration and development passed by the 1990 General Assembly.

The regulations deal with a number of issues including a structure for pooling of interests for drilling and the technical aspects of drilling gas wells in coal-mining areas.

Changes also have been made in the department's supervisory structure and in fees required.

The regulations, authorized by Senate Bill 382, will replace existing regulations. The public comment period runs through June 21. On June 21, a public meeting will be held from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors' room of the Washington County Office Building on Academy Drive in Abingdon.

Written comments will be received until 5 p.m. that day and may be submitted at the meeting or to DMME, Division of Gas and Oil, P.O. Box 1416, 230 Charwood Drive, Abingdon, Va. 24210.

Additional information can be obtained from Tom Fulmer, gas and oil inspector, (703) 628-8115.
