TRUMP GETS CAKE BUT NO BIG DEAL

Donald Trump got a Black Forest cake from Ivana Trump for his 44th birthday Thursday, but by nightfall he had not gotten the present he most needed to get him out of the woods: final approval of a new $60 million loan to shore up his faltering empire.

If the flamboyant deal maker does not get final approval from an array of dozens of foreign and domestic banks by Friday, he may default on more than $25 million in bond payments due on his Trump Castle casino hotel, banking sources said, and bondholders could set off a series of actions that would force him into seeking bankruptcy protection.

Discussions continued into the night with some banks in agreement and some not, a banking source said. - Newsday
