COUNCIL GIVES USED-CAR DEALER SIX MONTHS TO SPRUCE UP LOT

Town Council has given used-car dealer Donald Hutcherson another six months to satisfy neighbors' complaints about the appearance of his car lot.

Hutcherson, who has run Cars and Classics on Scuffling Hill Road since 1988, was summoned to the June 11 council meeting to answer complaints about inoperable vehicles and junked cars on his lot. Residents of nearby Knollwood Drive described Hutcherson's lot as a "junkyard."

Hutcherson said all the cars on his lot had passed state inspection and that he was providing a service to working people who could not afford a new car. He said he would work to improve the lot, located at the former site of the town's water processing plant.

The town's Planning Commission declined to make a recommendation on the car lot. Town Council voted 4-1 to table the matter for six months.
