/ ORANGEBURG, S.C. - Mrs. Mary Virginia Salley Dowling, age 74, of 530 Amelia Street, N.E., Orangeburg, S.C., died Sunday, June 24, at Providence Hospital in Columbia. Mrs. Dowling was born in Orangeburg, a daughter of the late Norman Edwin Salley and Edwina H. Sommers Salley. She attended Limestone College. Mrs. Dowling was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Orangeburg, Orangeburg Historical Society and Dixie Club, Prince of Orange Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, the Paul McMichael Chapter #427 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Dowling was the widow of Havelock Eaves Dowling. Surviving are two sons, Decania Dowling, Orangeburg, S.C.; Norman Edwin Dowling, Blacksburg; one daughter, Mrs. Frank (Mary Ellen) Watts, Spartanburg, S.C.; two grandchildren, Emily and Stuart Dowling, Blacksburg. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 26, at the First Presbyterian Church, Orangeburg, S.C., with the Rev. Barry L. Jenkins officiating. Active pallbearers will be Austin Salley, Jr., Austin Salley, III, Rhett Salley, Haskell Johnson, Lewis Culler, and Webb Davis. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Cemetery, Orangeburg, S.C. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Scholarship Fund, 536 Stanley Street, Orangeburg, S.C. 29115; The Tamassee Home, Tamassee School, Tamassee, S.C. 29686; or to Shriners Hospital, Greenville, S.C. 29601. Friends may call at the residence. Dukes-Harley Funeral Home, Orangeburg, S.C., is in charge of the arrangements.
