\ PULASKI - Velva Smith Sutphin, age 77, of 7000 Auburn Ave., Norfolk, died Monday morning in Norfolk General Hospital. Born in Pulaski, May 7, 1913, the daughter of the late Henry B. Smith and Mary Cruise Smith, she was preceded in death by her husband, French N. Sutphin. She is survived by two daughters, Margaret Gaynelle Sutphin Hughes, Virginia Beach, Va.; Betty Jane Sutphin Ortiz, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one son, Jerry W. Sutphin, Knoxville, Tenn.; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. from the Draper Valley Pentecostal Church Cemetery, Wythe County, Va. Visiting will be Wednesday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home.
