PUBLIC MEETING TO ADDRESS LANDFILL SITE

A public meeting on a landfill planned for a 1,500-acre site in eastern Wythe County will be held Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Max Meadows Elementary School.

The proposed landfill would serve Wythe and Bland counties, as well as the Wythe County towns of Wytheville and Rural Retreat. Bland has no incorporated towns.

The site, owned by the Russell Land and Auction Co., is north of Virginia 610 and about three miles northeast of the Max Meadows community. Its purchase price is $700,000. It was recommended by Draper Aden Associates of Blacksburg.

The meeting will inform residents of the site selection process, outline state requirements for landfill selection, and leave time for questions.
