KYLE, CARL H.

\ Mrs. Carl Hutson Kyle (Mrs. Robert Merrill, Sr.), age 97, died Thursday at South Roanoke Nursing Home. Born on January 26, 1893, in Fincastle, she was the daughter of Robert L. and Ora P. Hutson. One of the the earliest residents of South Roanoke, she lived most of her life at her home on Rosalind Ave. She was a charter member and the longest living member of South Roanoke United Methodist Church, where she was active in most phases of church life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Merrill Kyle, Sr., and her son, Robert M. Kyle, Jr. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth K. and William F. Weller, Smith Mountain Lake; Anna K. and Eugene M. Updike, Roanoke; a daughter-in-law, Lillian B. Kyle, Bolling Green , Ky.; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Ann Carter Weller, Cary, N.C.; Richard C. and Pamela T. Carter, Winston-Salem, N.C.; David E. and Kris S. Updike, North Wilkesboro, N.C.; R. Kyle and Lisa Stoneman Updike, Roanoke; Sandra K. and Robert Huffman, Roswell, Ga.; Leslie K. and Phillip Proffitt, Bolling Green, Ky.; Robin K. and Charles Collins, Auburn, Ky.; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday from South Roanoke United Methodist Church with Rev. James A. Hain officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday.
