NEW RIVER PEOPLE

Six people have completed geriatric nursing assistant training at New River Community College. They are: GLENDA S. HIGGINS and JOYCE S. LYON of Dublin, TINAM. BELL and JOANNE M. LAWSON of Pulaski, and MICHELLE L. DAVIDSON of Pembroke.

\ CAROLYN MARSHALL, LYNDA DICKERSON, CAROL PEACHEY, SUSAN MCDANIEL, ELIZABETH EAST and JENNIFER PARKER have received geriatric nursing certificates from Heritage Hall and will take their state boards August 25.

\ ANNA E. GLASS and JENNIFER S. GLASS, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Richard G. Glass of Radford and graduates of Radford High School, have been licensed as certified public accountants. Anna Glass is a 1989 graduate of Virginia Tech. Jennifer Glass is a 1987 cum laude graduate of James Madison University and received her master's from the College of William and Mary in 1989.

\ NANCY E. GLASS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard G. Glass of Radford and a Radford High School graduate, has accepted assignment with the Peace Corps to Zaire, where she will be a community health organizer. She is a 1990 graduate of Furman University in Greenville, S.C.

\ The Scholarship Committee of the Virginia Mountain Crafts Guild awarded a 1990 scholarship to TAMARA SHUCK, a graduate of Blacksburg High School, who will study architectural landscaping at Virginia Tech.

\ KATHLEEN NICELY, daughter of Dr. James and Sonya Nicely of Radford and a junior at Radford University, has been chosen news director for DePauw University's campus radio station for the fall semester. The award-winning station in Indiana allows visiting students to get broadcasting media experience as staff members.

\ JENNIFER POFF, daughter of Arthur and Karen Poff of Christiansburg and a senior at Virginia Tech, was elected president of the university's Gamma Beta Phi Society chapter, a national honor society.

\ Recent retirees from Litton Poly-Scientific are senior mold loader VERNA LONG, a Blacksburg resident with 33 years of service, and electronic assembler BERTHA LAFON of Blacksburg, with 30 years of service.

\ The following employees of Hercules Inc., Radford Army Ammunition Plant, retired July 1: EULA S. MEDLEY of Christiansburg, an accounting specialist with 37 years of service; HASSELL F. BOOTHE of Christiansburg, an engineer with 31 years of service; HARRY D. AKERS of Wytheville, a maintenance department supervisor with 28 years of service; WILLIAM O. REYNOLDS of Blacksburg, a carpenter shop foreman with 28 years of service; WILLIAM P. HUTCHINS of Radford, a foreman in the propellant department with 41 years of service; JOHN W. PIERCE of Radford, a propellant development manager with 39 years of service; THOMAS M. TOWNSEND of Radford, a shift supervisor in the propellant department with 36 years of service, and PAUL N. HELMS of Christiansburg, a turbine and switchboard operator with 24 years of service.
