Meanwhile, crimes against Arab-Americans also increased in 1990 and skyrocketed last month as America entered war in the Persian Gulf, according to the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee.
The report on anti-Semitic incidents was released by the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith.
Anti-Semitic acts of harassment, assaults or threats against Jewish individuals or institutions jumped 29 percent last year to a record 758 incidents. Anti-Jewish vandalism was reported 927 times last year, a 10 percent increase over the previous year and the second highest number since such records were collected beginning in 1980.
The ADL said it was particularly disturbed by the growing anti-Semitic trend on college campuses, where the number of instances jumped to 95 at 57 different institutions, compared to 69 incidents at 54 locations in 1989. Over the past three years, the number of anti-Semitic instances on campus has increased 72 percent.
Also alarming, the ADL report said, was the resurgence in anti-Semitic acts apparently motivated by events in the Middle East. Between January and August last year, ADL reported 20 anti-Israel or pro-Palestinian incidents. Since late August - when Iraq attempted to link its invasion of Kuwait with the Palestinian issue - and the end of the year, 25 such incidents were reported.
