CAROLINA WIDENS LEAD AT ACC SWIM MEET

Virginia won two individual events but still lost ground to North Carolina at the Atlantic Coast Conference women's swimming and diving championships.

Cavaliers sophomore Lori Werth won the 400-yard individual medley in an NCAA qualifying time of 4 minutes, 21.64 seconds. Another UVa sophomore, Karen Burgess, took her second championship by winning the 200-yard freestyle in an NCAA qualifying time of 1:48.93. She had won the 200-yard individual medley on Friday.

Going into today's final events, UNC has 567 points, while Virginia is second with 503.5.
