MORTGAGE RATES POST SLIGHT RISE

Fixed-rate mortgages averaged 9.29 percent this week, up slightly from 9.25 percent last week, according to a national survey released Friday by the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp.

It was the first increase since mid-January. The 9.25 percent rate last week was the lowest since rates averaged 9.07 percent in the week ending March 27, 1987.

On one-year adjustable rate mortgages, lenders were asking an average initial rate of 7.57 percent, down from 7.59 percent last week. - Associated Press
