TRIBE GETS ITS TEAMS REINSTATED

Ten days after cutting the four sports, William and Mary President Paul Verkuil said Friday the college would reinstate women's basketball, men's wrestling and men's and women's swimming.

He said the reaction from students, alumni and fans opposing the cut along with new funding for the sports led to the decision.

Spokesman William N. Walker said Verkuil made the decision after meeting with athletic officials. He said contributions and future financial commitments saved the sports, but he would not elaborate on where the money came from.

The college had cut the sports in a cost-cutting move to begin next school year.
