EX-CLINTWOOD CHIEF CLEARED IN DUI CASE

The former Clintwood police chief has been cleared of the drunken-driving charge that got him fired.

Carlous Ray Rose was dismissed by Clintwood Town Council after his car hit another Dec. 30 while he was on duty and state police charged him with driving while intoxicated. Mike Stanley, formerly with the Dickenson County Sheriff's Office, was hired to replace him.

Rose contended at his trial this week that two tablespoons of cough syrup caused his 0.13 percent blood alcohol Breathalyzer reading.

Several council members indicated they plan to leave Stanley in his post. Rose could not be reached for comment.
