DRIVER CONVICTED OF FATAL HIT AND RUN

A 23-year old Wytheville man was convicted last week of hit-and-run charges in a fatal traffic accident last August.

Michael Ray Hollars was the driver of a pickup truck that collided with a motorcycle and killed cyclist Edward F. Jones, 39. Authorities said Hollars and two companions left the scene and were apprehended the next morning.

Hollars was originally charged with involuntary manslaughter, but a grand jury indicted him on the lesser charge. A pre-sentence report will be made.

Robert J. Owens, 36, of Wytheville, a passenger in Hollars' truck, was found not guilty of failing to report the accident.
