ROANOKE MAN BEATEN WITH PAY PHONE

A 19-year-old man was beaten on the face and body with a pay telephone late Saturday.

Police said Marcus D. Williamson of Ordway Drive Northwest was assaulted by two males at a market on Cove Road Northwest about 10:30 p.m. One of the suspects grabbed the telephone out of his hand and started hitting him. The other joined in the assault, police said.

Officers stopped a car on Lafayette Boulevard Northwest; Terry William Price, 19, of Barnhart Street Northwest, was charged with assault and battery and a 17-year-old, whose name was not disclosed because of his age, faces a malicious wounding charge and was placed at Coyner Springs Juvenile Detention Center.

No information was available on Williamson's condition Sunday.

Police also investigated these complaints over the weekend:

A 49-year-old Roanoke man was hit by a car and knocked unconscious after a dispute at a Campbell Avenue nightspot around midnight Friday. Police said the people with whom Robert Austin Tankesley had been arguing got in their car, backed up and flipped him into the air onto the pavement. Police reported no charges and Tankesley has been released from Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

John Wayne Moore, 37, was slashed across the lips with a pocketknife after arguing with another man Friday night. He told police he planned to obtain a warrant.

A 33-year-old man said a 15-year-old ran off with his $40 on Fairfax Avenue Northwest Saturday. The man told police he had arranged to buy some drugs from the youth.
