TECH ATHLETIC AWARD GOES TO MOLLY RUSH

Senior Molly Rush, a member of Virginia Tech's women's tennis team, is the recipient of the university's top athletic honor, the Frank Loria Award.

Rush, from Harmony, Pa., received the award during halftime of the Virginia Tech-South Carolina men's basketball game. A four-year letter winner, she is 28th in the Eastern tennis rankings.

The exercise science major was Tech's most valuable player last season and was selected to the All-Metro Conference team. This season she is 5-0 in singles play and 10-6 in doubles.

Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership fraternity, instituted the Loria award in 1972 in memory of the Tech All-America football player killed in an airplane crash. The award selection is based on academic and athletic achievement, citizenship and leadership. - Staff report
