UVA OPENS SEASON WITH LACROSSE VICTORY

Virginia held Washington and Lee scoreless for periods of 21 and 28 minutes Wednesday and cruised past the Generals 19-5 in the opening game for both lacrosse teams.

The Cavaliers, ranked third in Division I, scored nine straight goals during one stretch and led 16-2 at one point in the fourth quarter.

It was Virginia's 14th straight victory in the series.

Four players had two goals and 14 players had at least one goal for UVa, which outshot the Generals 55-15. Sophomore attackman Kevin Pehlke led the way with two goals and two assists, and senior midfielder Andy Kraus, redshirted in 1990, had one goal and three assists.
