Connections to offer foster-parent training

> Connections will begin a series of classes March 11 for those interested in becoming foster parents.

The free evening classes deal with positive parenting skills.

The Roanoke-based foster-care agency needs foster parents, particularly for school-age children. Connections provides financial and casework support to foster families.

Beauceant assembly elects new officers

Dorothy Corlette of Salem has been elected president of Roanoke Assembly No. 261, Social Order of the Beauceant.

Other elected officers from the Roanoke Valley are Peggy Cobbs, second vice president, and Margaret Brown, preceptress.

Appointed officers from the Roanoke Valley include Susan Hall, recorder; Eva Longworth, treasurer; and Linnae Hedgbeth, marshal.

This year, the group will raise funds to support the Knights Templar Eye Foundation, which provides surgery, medication and glasses to needy people with vision problems.

Vinton man installed to district Mason post

Sherman Montel Smallwood of Vinton has been installed as 1991 Deputy Grand Master for the 24th Masonic District of Virginia.

The district is made up of five lodges in Bedford County: Liberty No. 95, Chamblissburg No. 179, Mentow No. 180, Bedford No. 244 and Forest No. 245.
