NORTH CROSS JV TEAM WINS VIC TOURNAMENT

North Cross has won the first Virginia Independent Conference junior varsity basketball tournament on its home floor.

The Raiders, coached by Dave Calvert, whipped Lynchburg Christian Academy 35-32 in the championship game. Jesse Webster led the win with 12 points. North Cross defeated Roanoke Valley Christian School 43-35 in the semifinals as Hal Johnson led with 11 points. Sam Donnelly had 15 for RVCS.

North Cross posted a 19-5 overall record and won the VIC regular season with a 13-1 record. The only league loss, which later was avenged, was to Hargrave Military. The other season losses were to William Byrd and Lord Botetourt. The wins included ones over Salem and Floyd.

The starters for North Cross were Johnson, Webster, Carter Teague, John Logan and Skip Johnson. Sharing playing time with the starters were Jason Davis and A.J. Esguerra.
