WEARING SEAT BELT A HELP TO DRIVING

I WOULD like to let Steven Brown (letter, Feb. 11) know why his decision not to wear a seat belt does affect others besides himself.

If he is driving and loses control for any reason, by his fault or not, he won't be able to regain control while he's banging around inside his vehicle or if he's thrown out. His vehicle may hit others in the process.

Suppose he skids on ice. It might have only taken a couple of seconds for him to regain control; but he won't be able to if he's lying across the seat, half down in the floorboard, and that is when he is likely to hit somebody else. Let's hope he doesn't have babies and children with him who are also exercising their rights not to buckle up! BRADY MYERS SALEM
