DRAFT, YES; BUT ONLY FOR COLUMNISTS

I TEND to agree with Paxton Davis' call for a resumption of the draft. I believe, however, that only aging political columnists should be eligible.

Just think, the soldiers could provide their own media coverage. So that conflicts would be on an equal footing, there would have to be a United Nations resolution forcing other countries to draft only columnists.

Frequent cease-fires would be called to allow the combatants to catch their breath and reassess their political positions. The country with the heaviest losses would be declared the winner.

War would become a joyous and useful event. Mr. Davis would, of course, be a general. The only problem I foresee is that of burial, because I doubt even the good earth would accept these self-righteous asses. TIMOTHY N. TRIBBETT ROANOKE
