FOREST MAN INDICTED IN 2 TRAFFIC FATALITIES

A 39-year-old man was indicted on two counts of involuntary manslaughter Wednesday in connection to a Christmas Eve car crash that left his brother-in-law and another man dead.

State police say Douglas Ray Harden of Forest was driving fast on Dec. 24 when his car crossed the center line and struck an oncoming vehicle near the intersection of Virginia 644 and 621.

A passenger in Harden's car, 29-year-old Stuart Lynn McCabe, was killed in the accident. McCabe, an employee of Ivy Hill Realty, was Harden's brother-in-law.

The driver of the other car, Frederick Earl Hicks, also was killed. Hicks, a 55-year-old Lynchburg resident, was president and owner of General Builders Co.

If convicted on both counts, Harden would face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Harden, a shoe designer, will appear Friday in Bedford County Circuit Court for an attorney advisement hearing.
