RELIGION BRIEFS

THE REV. ALAN P. NEELY, pastor of Rosalind Hills Baptist Church 30 years ago and now active in Southern Baptist higher education planning, will speak at Rosalind Hills Sunday through Wednesday nights at 7. The services at 2711 Laburnum Ave. S.W. will be preceded by special vocal and instrumental music.

\ PRACTICAL PRAYER, a free lecture by Patricia Scott Gantt of Colorado Springs, Colo., is scheduled March 15 at 8 p.m. at First Church of Christ, Scientist, 1155 Overland Road S.W. Gantt is a member of the Board of Lectureship of First Church in Boston. A nursery will be staffed.

\ THE KINGERYS, a gospel music trio of mother and daughters, will perform Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Grandview Heights Church of the Nazarene, Riverdale and Highland Roads Southeast. An offering will be taken.

\ AWAKENING, an annual Lenten series of services sponsored jointly by Roanoke Valley Churches of the Brethren, will be led this year by the Rev. Paul Fike. The services will be at Central Church, 416 Church Ave. S.W. March 17-20 nightly at 7:15. Fike, pastor of the Cloverdale church about 30 years ago, now is chaplain at a Bridgewater retirement home. \ MESSIAH, the Easter choruses, will be presented at downtown Roanoke's First Baptist Church on March 24. The church's Chancel Choir and orchestra will participate in the program starting at 6 p.m.

\ SPIRITUAL HEALING AND YOGA TECHNIQUES are the subjects of classes open for registration at Valley Community Church, 5000 Carriage Drive S.W. Monday and Thursday groups are planned for the seven-week yoga series, which begins Monday and March 14 at 6:50 p.m. Each series costs $35 and will be taught by Peggy Stillwagon of Blacksburg, a practitioner for 20 years.

The second class, "The Healing Light," is based on an Agnes Sanford book and will be March 20 and 27 and April 3 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Cost is $15. Call the Rev. Maurita Wiggins, 774-5512 to register for either class.

\ THE REV. METZ T. COKER will observe his 39th anniversary as pastor of Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church Sunday at 3 p.m. The Rev. W.W. Thompson and the choir of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Chester, S.C., will lead the service.

\ WOMEN'S DAY will be celebrated at High Street Baptist Church, 2302 Florida Ave. N.W., on Sunday. The Rev. Faye Gunn, assistant to the pastor of Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, will speak at 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. services. Special music by the Women's Day Choir will be part of the afternoon service.

The annual banquet follows the morning service. Reservations for the $7 meal should be made by calling 563-0123 by Saturday.

\ THE REV. JAMES PARKE has been given a second six-year term as pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Salem by Bishop Walter F. Sullivan. Priests in the Diocese of Richmond usually serve for five years with extended terms considered if requested by the congregation and pastor.
