Roanoke and Roanoke County have announced registration dates for kindergarten pupils and children currently attending private kindergarten who will attend first grade in public schools next year.

All children who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30 are eligible to enroll for kindergarten. Parents should register their children at the school the children will attend.

Registration in the city will be March 14 and 15 from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. In the county, parents may register pupils March 20 and 21 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Pupils currently attending kindergarten in the public schools are not required to register to enter first grade in the same school system.

The following documents are required to enroll children in Virginia public schools: an original birth certificate, a report of a physical examination performed less than a year previously, an immunization certificate and a Social Security number.
