USX ACCUSED OF PENSION SCHEME

USX Corp. executives devised a scheme to cheat workers out of up to $100 million in pension benefits and unload an aging Utah steel mill to save money, an attorney for the steelworkers said Monday.

Attorney Gerry Spence is representing nearly 2,000 former steelworkers at the Geneva Works in Orem in a lawsuit that alleges the steel producer deliberately tried to keep the employees from receiving their pensions.

The trial, which began Monday in U.S. District Court, is expected to last several weeks. USX is to deliver opening statements in court today.
