AMP CLOSING IN WEYERS CAVE

About 250 employees will be affected when AMP closes its electronic connection manufacturing plant in Weyers Cave on May 24, officials said Monday.

Competition from Asia was the main factor in the decision to close the facility, said Philip Guarneschelli, an AMP vice president.

When production operations are transferred to other plants in Virginia, about 50 jobs in Roanoke and 60 jobs in either the Mount Sidney or Harrisonburg plant will be offered to the Weyers Cave workers, Guarneschelli said.
