SALON SETTLES CASE OF BOTCHED PERMANENT

Maria Williams wanted a permanent wave, but ended up with a permanent bald spot. She sued a hair salon, and the suit was settled for $10,000.

Williams' $250,000 claim against The Hair Cuttery was set to go to trial when she accepted the $10,000 settlement offer Monday.

Williams, 48, says all she wanted was a trim and a perm when she visited The Hair Cuttery in May 1989. She says she ended up with bald patches, chemically damaged hair and scalp burns.

William M. Harris, the attorney representing Hair Cuttery, said the settlement did not mean the salon believed it was at fault for what happened.
