HALIFAX DROPS KNIGHTS 8-4 IN OPENER

On the mound, Robert Elmore struck out five. With a bat, he had two hits and drove in the game-winning runs as Halifax County opened the baseball season by beating Cave Spring 8-4.

After Cave Spring (0-1) rallied to tie the score 4-4 in the fourth, Elmore drove in two runs with a base-loaded single in the fifth for Halifax. The Comets (1-0) went on to score four times in the inning.

Dee Dalton was 2-for-2 for Cave Spring, and Mark Swartz drove in two runs.

Halifax took the early lead on a three-run home run by Kevin Anderson in the first inning.
