RADFORD SURVIVES BRISTOL 4-2

Radford senior Dac Carbone flirted with a no-hitter and the Highlanders flirted with disaster before beating Bristol 4-2 in college baseball Wednesday.

Donnie Just provided the power in the sixth inning with a two-run homer that gave the Highlanders (6-10-3) a 2-1 lead. First basemen Ben Chow singled and scored on a grounder and designated hitter John Gilbert scored on a wild pitch in the inning to complete the scoring.

Carbone (1-1), an infielder before this season, was making his first start and gave up two hits in the eighth inning.

Bristol scored in the sixth when Jody Gobble, who reached after being hit by a Carbone pitch, stole second and crossed home on a wild pitch.
