MILLER OUTRUNS HENSLEY FOR WIN

Butch Miller of Coopersville, Mich., held off Jimmy Hensley to win the Mountain Dew 500 NASCAR Busch Grand National Series race Sunday at Hickory Motor Speedway.

Miller, in his first full season on the Grand National circuit, started 14th in the 30-car field and didn't move into the lead until lap 210 of the 276-lap race.

He led the rest of the way on the .363-mile track, holding off fast-closing Hensley, who had started on the pole and dominated most of the race before falling behind on a late pit stop.

Miller held off Hensley, of Ridgeway, Va., by one car length to win $11,501 for his second career Grand National victory. The Chevrolet driver won a Grand National event in 1986 at Indianapolis.

Hensley, driving an Oldsmobile, collected $6,076 for second. Joe Nemechek of Lakeland, Fla., finished third in a Chevrolet, with Winston Cup regular Ken Schrader of Fenton, Mo., fourth, also in a Chevrolet. Rookie Ed Ferree of Saxonburg, Pa., was fifth in a Buick.

The race was slowed by 17 caution flags for 76 laps, most for minor incidents.

Grand National points leader Kenny Wallace finished 20th after losing 22 laps early in the race with a mechanical problem. He retained an 85-point lead over Hensley in the standings after six of 31 events for 1991.
