LOUISVILLE ROUTS VIRGINIA TECH 13-3

Dan Kopriva, Darren Oppel and Charlie Allen slugged solo home runs as Louisville routed Virginia Tech 13-3 in a Metro Conference baseball game Sunday.

The Cardinals (12-17 overall, 2-4 Metro) got 13 hits off five Tech pitchers, and Jimmy Downs pitched a five-hitter with nine strikeouts to get the win.

Josh Haggas hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning for Tech's only runs.

Virginia Tech's hot-hitting catcher, Clint Creed, who had gotten 22 hits in 29 at-bats before Saturday's doubleheader split, went 0-for-3 and has not had a hit in his past five at-bats.

Tech (13-11, 4-2) plays host to Richmond at 3 p.m. Tuesday at English Field.
