PATRIOTS WIN GIRLS' TRACK TITLE

Patrick Henry took the girls' title in the Vince Bradford Relays held at Liberty University on Saturday.

The Patriots' Felicia Godley placed second in the long jump and fourth in the high jump. She was also a member of the 400-meter relay team, which placed first, and the 800 relay team, which finished second.

William Fleming's Monica Cabbler won the triple jump with a leap of 37-feet-2 1/2 inches. The Colonels finished sixth in the meet.

GW-Danville won the boys' meet. Patrick Henry placed ninth, and was led by Mike Ferguson, who finished third in the 110 hurdles, sixth in the triple jump, fourth in the 300 hurdles and was a member of the 400 relay team, which placed third.

In other high school highlights:

\ BASEBALL: Matt Reynolds pitched and hit William Byrd to a 5-1 victory against Blacksburg in Vinton. Reynolds had two hits, including a solo homer, and two runs batted in. On the mound, he struck out 15 and allowed five hits and two walks. Jerry Anderson also had a solo homer for the Terriers (6-0-1). Blacksburg is 1-3.

North Cross (2-5) crushed visiting Greensboro Day School 16-4 as Chad Burchinal allowed one hit in four innings and stroked three hits, including two doubles, for three RBI. Aaron Lange added two hits, including a triple, for four RBI.

\ SOFTBALL: North Cross (4-0) remained unbeaten with a 17-3 win against visiting Greensboro Day School. Erin Humphries and Michelle Mayhew each stroked two-run homers.

\ SOCCER: Allen Whittle's penalty kick with two minutes remaining lifted North Cross (6-0-1) to a 1-0 victory against Science Hall in the final round of the Virginia/Tennessee Shootout at Johnson City, Tenn. - Staff reports
