DAVIS: MOTHER OF ALL IGNORAMUSES?

PAXTON DAVIS' article on the war (March 22) reached a new low, even for him. To conclude that we won in Iraq because our government vastly exaggerated Iraq's capacity to fight and because we were willing to kill civilians and enemy soldiers indiscriminately, goes beyond sheer ignorance and a flagrant disregard for facts. It borders on senility and/or treason!

In fact, I am convinced that no human being, even a journalist, could be so inane, so uninformed, so mindless, so un-American, so immoral and so socialistic as Davis unless he truly is the Mother of all Ignoramuses.

More likely, the reason you publish his ramblings is to stir controversy among the readership. How else could one justify keeping such a literary non-talent on the payroll? To paraphrase Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf's remarks on Saddam, Paxton Davis is neither a good reporter, an interesting journalist, nor a thoughtful writer; nor has he ever written anything worthy of human consumption. Other than that, he is a great columnist! DON ASSAID ROANOKE
