HAYES, ELIZABETH S.

Elizabeth Smith Hayes of Roanoke died in a Salem hospital Saturday morning. She was the daughter of the late Edgar W. and Bertha Williams Smith. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Roanoke, a life member of the National Federation of Garden Clubs, and a member of Town and Country Garden Club. Surviving are her husband, E. Paul Hayes; daughter, Elizabeth Hayes Doyle, Elliston, Va.; son, Edgar Paul Hayes, Jacksonville, N.C.; four grandchildren, Francis P. Doyle, Elizabeth R. Doyle, Edgar P. Hayes Jr., Frederick G. Hayes; two great-grandchildren, Nicole E. Doyle, Carter F. Doyle; one sister, Edith Smith Jones, Gainesville, Fla.; two brothers, David V. Smith, Blacksburg; Kenneth W. Smith, Akron, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 1:30 p.m. Monday by Dr. Harry Y. Gamble and Dr. C. Steven Teague. Entombment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials be made to Calvary Baptist Church or the Roanoke Council of Garden Clubs. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel where the family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday.
