MOTORIST SHOT BY MAN WHO FLAGGED CAR, ASKED MONEY

A Southwest Roanoke man was shot Tuesday night by a young man who flagged his car down and asked for money, city police said today.

Clyde David Cash, 25, of Halbert Avenue, was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to his forehead, police said. A hospital official had no information on his condition.

Cash told police at the hospital that he was driving in the 700 block of West Salem Avenue about 11:30 p.m. when he saw a young man standing in the middle of the street.

The man waved Cash down and said he needed some money. When Cash said he had no money, the man pulled a small-caliber handgun and fired two or three shots into the driver's-side window, police said.

Cash, who ducked down in the seat as the shots were fired, apparently suffered a grazing gunshot wound to his forehead.

Roanoke police also reported the following incidents:

A 23-year-old resident of Southern Manor Home for Adults on Williamson Road was cut on the arm Tuesday night with a large military knife during an altercation.

John Griasenbrack, 23, was treated at Community Hospital after the incident, which occurred about 8:30. He was also cut with a piece of glass.

His roommate, Henry Dean Carter, 27, was charged with malicious wounding. Carter was treated at Roanoke Memorial Hospital for apparent self-inflicted wounds, police said.

Ronnie Slusher, 25, of Roanoke was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital after his motorcycle collided with a car in the 4100 block of Plantation Road. Slusher was traveling north at the time of the 8 p.m. collision. He sustained multiple injuries. Lynn Milliken, the driver of the car, was in stable condition at Community Hospital.
