DESHAZO INJURED IN TECH SCRIMMAGE

Redshirt freshman quarterback Maurice DeShazo passed for 140 yards and two touchdowns Wednesday before spraining his right ankle near the end of Virginia Tech's controlled football scrimmage.

Team doctor Duane Lagan said DeShazo's injury will be evaluated today to determine if he can play in Tech's Maroon-White game Saturday at 7 p.m. in Lane Stadium.

During the scrimmage, tailback Lee Green caught a 40-yard scoring pass and split end Antonio Freeman caught an 18-yarder from DeShazo; quarterback Treg Koel threw a 34-yard scoring pass to John Rivers; and tailback Ranall White rushed for touchdowns of 4 and 2 yards.

On defense, Billy Swarm made two sacks and David Wimmer and Andy Miller had one each. - Staff report
