SAFIRE'S SNIDE SWIPE AT SEPTUAGENARIANS

WILLIAM Safire (column, April 12) is entitled to disbelief "that the first lady of the land had an affair in the family quarters of the White House with a septuagenarian crooner."

I resent, as a septuagenarian myself (somebody 70 years old, for those who don't know this fancy word), this gratuitous, snide innuendo that women might just not be interested in affairs with us! MORTON NADLER BLACKSBURG
