POLICE, FIRE REPORTS

A Virginia Tech sophomore is in stable condition at Montgomery Regional Hospital after a motorcycle accident on West Campus Drive around 1 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

Robert Allgaier, 20, of 1300 block of Terrace View, suffered a collapsed lung and facial injuries when a car emerging from Perry Street collided with his motorcycle, police said.

Charges are pending.

In other reports:

A wood frame home in the Thomas Creek section of Blacksburg was destroyed by fire Wednesday, fire officials said.

The owner, Marie Snider, was not in the house on Bob Cat Lane when the fire started, Blacksburg Fire Chief Bobby Carner said.

Flames were reaching through the roof when fire trucks from Blacksburg and Longshop-McCoy fire departments arrived around 1 p.m., Carner said.

The fire started around a coal stove. "Probably the heat from a pipe set the wall on fire," Carner said. The house was in a remote area and probably had burned for a while before being noticed, he said.

Blacksburg police charged a Christiansburg man with two counts of credit card theft and credit card forgery after a running chase Tuesday.

Police said Randy Dewayne Reed, 19, of Macy's Trailer Court, Christiansburg, used a credit card to try to buy shoes at Eagle Express on North Main Street about 2 p.m. The card had been reported stolen in Blacksburg.

Police are looking for a second man who escaped on foot.

Reed also was charged with using another person's driver's license as identification, police said. He was in the Montgomery County Jail in lieu of $3,500 bond. A hearing was set for June 12 in General District Court at 300 S. Main Street, Blacksburg.
